An evening dedicated to Nacera Belaza

As part of the Festival de la Francophonie 2026, the Embassy of France in Thailand and Alliance Française Bangkok are organizing an evening dedicated to contemporary dance and to the Franco-Algerian choreographer Nacera Belaza.

Having founded her dance company in Paris in 1989, Nacera Belaza has developed a singular choreographic writing, shaped by her dual culture. Recognized for her minimalist and meditative choreographic language, she explores silence, time and the expressive power of movement. Her works have been presented internationally in Europe, Africa, Asia and North America. In recognition of her artistic contribution, she was appointed Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Ministry of Culture and received the SACD Choreographic Prize in 2017.

On the occasion of the ADN Dance Living Lab project between Nacera Belaza and physicist Étienne Klein, around the question of “what a body can do” at the Théâtre National de Chaillot in 2021, the choreographer met independent filmmaker and sound explorer Vincent Moon (Petites Planètes). From this collaboration was born « L’envol », a short documentary film reinterpreting the artistic performance of the same name by Nacera Belaza.

During her visit to Thailand, Nacera Belaza will also lead a masterclass for young dancers invited by the National Choreography Center of Thailand (NCCT).

The performance in Bangkok is presented with the support of the Embassy of France in Thailand.

Nacera Belaza’s presence in Bangkok is part of the training program of the NCCT initiated by Jitti Chompee. Director of 18 Monkeys Dance Theatre and of the Unfolding Kafka Festival, Jitti Chompee is a Thai artist recognized both nationally and internationally. In 2025, he founded the NCCT, an initiative supported in its first year by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs through the Fonds Équipe France – Rapide program.

การเดินทางมาประเทศไทยของ Nacera Belaza เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของ โครงการฝึกอบรมของ NCCT ที่ริเริ่มโดย Jitti Chompee ผู้อำนวยการ 18 Monkeys Dance Theatre และ Unfolding Kafka Festival ซึ่งเป็นศิลปินชาวไทยที่ได้รับการยอมรับทั้งในระดับประเทศและนานาชาติ ในปี 2025 เขาได้ก่อตั้ง NCCT ซึ่งเป็นโครงการที่ได้รับการสนับสนุนในปีแรกจาก กระทรวงยุโรปและการต่างประเทศของฝรั่งเศส ผ่านโครงการ Fonds Équipe France – Rapide

Une soirée dédiée à Nacera Belaza

Dans le cadre du Festival de la Francophonie 2026, l’Ambassade de France en Thaïlande et l’Alliance Française de Bangkok organisent une soirée dédiée à la danse contemporaine et à la chorégraphe franco-algérienne Nacera Belaza.

Ayant fondé sa compagnie de danse à Paris en 1989, Nacera Belaza a développé une écriture chorégraphique singulière, façonnée par sa double culture. Reconnue pour son langage chorégraphique minimaliste et méditatif, elle explore le silence, le temps et la puissance expressive du mouvement. Ses œuvres ont été présentées à l’international, en Europe, en Afrique, en Asie et en Amérique du Nord. En reconnaissance de sa contribution artistique, elle a été nommée Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres par le ministère français de la Culture et a reçu le Prix chorégraphique SACD en 2017.

A l’occasion du projet ADN Dance Living Lab entre Nacera Belaza et le physicien Etienne Klein autour de la question de “ce que peut un corps” au Théâtre National de Chaillot en 2021, la chorégraphe rencontre le réalisateur indépendant et explorateur sonore Vincent Moon (Petites Planètes). De cette collaboration naît « L’envol », un court film documentaire ré-interprétant la performance artistique éponyme de Nacera Belaza.

Lors de sa visite en Thaïlande, Nacera Belaza animera également une masterclass destinée à de jeunes danseurs invités par le National Choreography Center of Thailand (NCCT). 

Le spectacle à Bangkok est présenté avec le soutien de l'Ambassade de France en Thaïlande.

La présence de Nacera Belaza à Bangkok s’inscrit dans le programme de formation du NCCT initié par Jitti Chompee. Directeur de la compagnie 18 Monkeys Dance Theatre et du Unfolding Kafka Festival, Jitti Chompee est un artiste thaïlandais reconnu tant au niveau national qu’international. En 2025, il a fondé le NCCT, une initiative soutenue pour sa première année par le ministère de l’Europe et des Affaires étrangères à travers le programme Fonds Équipe France – Rapide.
